Finding Chinese recipes is usually pretty easy.
Chinese food is loved all around the world and many
people are more than willing to pass on their favorite
recipes.
These can be in cookbooks, on television shows, and on
the Internet. If you are new to Chinese cooking, you
might want to try out a few free recipes before
spending any money on a new book though.
For a beginner who really wants to learn the basics of
Chinese cooking and find some great and easy recipes,
nothing can beat the Internet. There are tons of
websites out there that have nothing but recipes for
all kinds of cuisine.
Many are specially geared toward Chinese food. Some
might make you register with the site but most give
you recipes for free. You can print them out or save
them for when you are ready to start cooking.
Television is a great way to learn about Chinese
recipes and what it takes to make them. The food
networks get a lot of ratings with Chinese cooking
shows and competitions.
The food is interesting to watch being made and always
looks delicious. It can be hard to write down a recipe
while watching someone cook it so a digital recorder
can help make sure you don't miss anything.
The old fashioned way is sometimes the best way. A
nice Chinese recipe cookbook can't be beat most of the
time. If you get a very large one, you can pick and
choose from any Chinese dish you can imagine.
They often include common substitutions and cooking
tips as well as helpful advice for the beginner.

Good Chinese Recipes for Beginners
Choosing a good Chinese recipe can be hard if you have
never prepared much Chinese food in the past. With
ingredients you may not be used to and cooking styles
you are unfamiliar with, it might seem a little scary
when looking through recipes.
It's best to start with something easy and fun unless
you are an experienced cook or you know exactly what
you want. If you absolutely love pot stickers, you
might try making those.
For most people, the best Chinese recipes to start
with are single course dishes. The easiest are usually
rice, a few vegetables and one kind of meat.
If you get more complex than that, you might have too
much going on at once and it can feel overwhelming.
It's very easy to start some rice and cook your meal
while the rice is cooking.
Rice usually takes about 20 minutes and it should take
about that long to cut some meat and vegetables and
get them cooking. Stir fry is the easiest thing to
cook. It's basically meat and vegetables seared over
high heat while stirring constantly.
When choosing a Chinese recipe, you should keep in
mind how many people you are going to feed. If it's
just a meal for one or two, you can get a little
fancier and try a couple different types of sauce.
If you are feeding kids, you can't go wrong with
something familiar like sweet and sour chicken. If you
try to serve up a bunch of Chinese bean pancakes, the
kids might protest.
It's always best to start small and try something
familiar.

Types of Chinese Recipes
Chinese recipes come in thousands of different
varieties. Everyone has their favorite dish but every
restaurant you go to will have a different recipe for
it.
This can be a pain if you are trying to recreate it
and you might have to try a couple different times to
get it just right. The best recipes have been handed
down through family lines and it may be hard to get
them without shelling out some cash for a cookbook.
The standard types of Chinese recipes are rice,
noodle, meat, seafood, and vegetable. There are also
recipes that belong to the many different regions of
China. Your Lo Mein in Beijing might taste nothing
like your Lo Mein in Shanghai.
Regions play a very important role in different
Chinese recipes. Many restaurants incorporate the
various regions into their menu so you can get a feel
for what is popular all over the different areas of
China.
The Northern regions use more wheat and noodles as
opposed to the Southern regions which use a lot of
rice and rice flour in their dishes. China is a huge
country so the climate in the North is much different
than the South.
Spices play a key role in many types of Chinese
recipes as well. A familiar spicy dish is the famous
Kung Pao. Used with shrimp or chicken usually, this
type of recipe is made with pepper sauce and the level
of heat can vary.
Even with the regions and spices involved, Chinese
recipes still usually are rice or noodle based and
have a meat and vegetable accompanying or mixed with
it. Soups and pancakes are an exception and are great
recipes to try out.

Fun Chinese Recipes for Kids
There are a lot of Chinese recipes out there that are
not only familiar but very fun to make. From egg rolls
to won tons, not only are they delicious but you can
get the entire family involved in the cooking process.
Kids love to make egg rolls and won tons and enjoy
having the freedom to put their own ingredients
inside.
A fun way to change around your typical egg roll
recipe is to let your family decide what goes into
them. You can use anything from cheddar cheese and ham
to peanut butter and jelly.
The fun part is the rolling. It's a great family
experience to sit together and create something. Even
if it doesn't turn out perfect, it's the effort that
makes it great.
Won tons are basically smaller and differently shaped
egg rolls and are a lot of fun to make too. Even a 4
year old can make a won ton so families of all ages
can do this together.
Traditionally, won tons have ground pork, onions, and
special Chinese vegetables and seasoning but just like
egg rolls, you can mix it up a little.
Some cream cheese or frosting inside and some cinnamon
and sugar can make for an interesting treat that
everyone will like.
For older kids, you can teach them to make almost
anything if they are willing. They can help chop
vegetables, learn to cook rice, or even make a stir
fry with little help.
It can be very rewarding to have your family help in
the kitchen and it might even become a hobby or career
for them one day.

Chinese Vegetable Recipes
Chinese vegetable recipes are very popular these days
because everyone is always on a diet. With the right
recipes on hand, you could easily drop a few pounds a
month by eating delicious Chinese food a couple times
a week.
Many people immediately think of things like bamboo
shoots, water chestnuts, and bok choy. While these are
common Chinese vegetables, not that many recipes use
them.
They are just usually prepackaged in the frozen food
section with anything that says Chinese on it. There
are many more vegetables you can use to give your
recipes a distinctly Chinese flavor.
Chinese cabbage is one of the best tasting and useful
vegetables you can buy. It's not as tangy or large as
normal cabbage and has a great flavor.
You can use this in salads, soups and stir fry to add
a more authentic Chinese taste and look to your food
or improve any standard Chinese recipe. It doesn't
hold up well under high heat so it should always be
added last.
A great way to make your Chinese recipe really special
is to add a handful of fresh snow pea pods. These are
very sweet and are commonly found in soups like won
ton. They can really add something special to any stir
fry and go great with seafood.
Every grocery store has a section that will have some
Chinese vegetables. If you like the taste of ginger,
it can be used to spice up almost any recipe you have.
It can be overpowering though. You will also see many
things that look like leeks and green onions. If you
don't know what they are, it doesn't hurt to buy some,
take it home and find a recipe for it. You might find
a new favorite vegetable!

Tips in cooking Italian recipes
If cooking burgers and barbecues, sunny-side ups and
omelet, try cooking Italian food and you will find a
fast portal to cooking with stress. Cooking Italian
food is hard even with a recipe to guide you on your
way.
Recipes of Italian food may contain a lot of words
that you will not be able to find in ordinary
dictionary. This is perhaps because Italian food is
often being cooked by those who already have the
experience in cooking.
But still, who’s stopping you from trying out the
different recipes that you will find in an Italian
cook book? Who knows, you might even master one dish
and another through practice.
One advantage of having a cook book is that everything
is already laid out for you. This means that you
already have a guide on what to do to make an Italian
dish. All you need to do is prepare the ingredients
and follow the cooking procedures to the letter. But
this is of course easier said than done. Here are some
tips that will at least lessen the hardships of coking
Italian food.
Buy a good recipe book A lot of the procedures
involved in Italian cooking is sometimes very hard to
comprehend in words. Sometimes you need a real life
demonstration to go with it. Unfortunately, you don’t
have a real chef in front of you. All you have is a
recipe book.
If this is the case, which is often are, then buy a
recipe book that will at least explain the very basic
procedures that you will encounter in Italian cooking.
Some recipe books have a section that explains all
that. Some even have illustrations and pictures of the
procedure per dish so that readers will have an idea
what it is being done.
Research in TV There are a lot of cooking shows in the
market that will help you a lot in improving your
skills in cooking Italian food. And with the TV, you
will have a first hand demonstration of what is being
done with the various ingredients. Even if you are not
actually there with the chef, you can still see what
he or she is actually doing.
Know the terms Constant research and watching of TV
will expose you to a lot of the terms of Italian
cooking. This will help you a lot in terms of cooking
the other dishes that are in the recipe book.
Remember, the procedures are actually all basic and
are being done in many of the dishes so all you need
to do is master each one and you are already good to
go.
Be precise In cooking, whether Italian food or other
cuisines, you need to make sure that your measurements
are correct and precise. The taste of your dish will
depend upon the rightness of the ingredients that you
put into it. A small difference in the ingredients can
alter the taste. Too much salt will make it too salty.
Too much flour in the sauce will make it gooey. Too
much water will make it bland and thin. And it goes on
and on. The flavorings that you put and the amount of
the ingredients will factor a lot in the food that you
are preparing so be cautious and use those measuring
tools.

Secret To Cooking Vegetables
Vegetables are essential to the human diet. We get a great deal of our daily vitamin content from vegetables. We need to make sure that how we cook them does not drain vitamin contents and benefits of consumption.
Cooking vegetables can be tricky. Over cooking can make vegetables bland and soggy. My belief is that vegetables should not be boiled. Boling not only rob us of vitamin content, it is the main culprit in turning vegetables to a lifeless, tasteless form.
If we cannot boil, how do we proceed?
First option, steaming vegetables is always a good choice. This will leave vegetables full of life. They will be crisp and colorful. It will also not deplete the vegetables of their vitamin content.
By rule of thumb, vegetables will only need a few minutes in the steam.
For those who do not have official vegetable steamers, an easy steamer can be fashioned out a of pot, a metal colander, and a pot lid. Place a small amount of water in the bottom of a given pot. Fit the metal colander into the pot. Start to boil the water. You will begin the see the steam rise. Place your vegetables into the metal colander and place the pot lid over the metal colander and pot. This collection of kitchen items will allow you to steam vegetables as good as any fancy store bought steamer.
Another good option is to cook your vegetables in a wok. The secret to the wok is that it cooks quickly at a very high temperature. Vegetables retain their flavors, textures, and colors with small amount of nutrient loss.
My favorite wok recipe for vegetables is to cook broccoli, carrots, bok choy, and snow peas in a very light garlic sauce. The vegetables remain crisp and the garlic adds just the right amount of flavoring. This combination can be served with any cut of meat.
I hope you will see that secret to cooking vegetables is not to over cook. Vegetables need to remain crisp, full of color. As you learn different tricks to bringing your vegetables to life, these will become the most requested dishes on your dinner table.

The Wonderful Tools of Cooking
Far too often people overlook the importance of using the proper tools when cooking fine meals. While there is nothing in the world that can quite compare to cooking with the finest and freshest of ingredients, these things can only be enhanced by making use of the perfect tools for the job at hand.
When it comes to pots and pans and skillets you should keep in mind that conductivity is of extreme importance. You should also select pots and pans that are made of a heavier gauge. This allows your pans to heat evenly avoiding hot spots, which can lead to food that may 'stick' to your pan or scorch during the cooking process. This means that simply stopping in at your local mass market retailer and purchasing any old set of pots and pans is probably not the best course of action for the best possible quality in your kitchen.
Kitchen knives are also important ingredients in the kitchens of today. If you plan to prepare many meals in your kitchen, then the quality of your knives is of the utmost importance. Your knives are an investment you shouldn't have to make too often in your lifetime. For this reason, select a really good set and be prepared to make a sizeable investment in your knives. You will never understand, unless you've tried to prepare foods with knives of inferior quality, just how important it is to purchase good quality and well-balanced knives for your kitchen. You should also try the handles in your hand to see how comfortable they feel before purchasing a set of knives. If you do a lot of chopping and cutting during your meal preparation and cooking you will want to make sure that the knives you are using feel comfortable in your hands.
If you are like me and plan on cooking a great deal of meat then you should also invest in a jacquard. This useful tool helps not only when it comes to tenderizing rather rough and tumble cuts of meat but also pierces the surface so that rubs and marinades can penetrate for a more flavorful experience. This is by far one of my favorite kitchen gadgets and it isn't a sizeable investment for the added value it provides to meals.
A good quality grater is another tool that no kitchen should be complete without. There are many who feel that with all the pre shredded cheese products on the market today this tool is obsolete but nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, pre grated and pre packaged cheese simply doesn't touch the quality of flavor that freshly grated cheese provides. Second, cheese isn't the only thing that these graters are useful for grating. Graters are excellent tools for grating citrus fruits, spices, garlic, chocolate, and even onions. If you do a good deal of baking in addition to your cooking you should not overlook the value of having a quality grater in your kitchen.
Of course there are many more cooking tools than I could possibly mention here. Those mentioned above simply happen to be among my personal favorites. There are all kinds of appliances that in my humble opinion no kitchen is truly complete without. In addition to these great appliances there are many tools that are simple matters of preference. Do you peel enough potatoes to warrant a special device for doing so or do you simply opt to purchase an ergonomically designed potato peeler and peel them by hand? There are no one size fits all answers when it comes to kitchen tools and many of us are often limited by serious budget constraints and restrictions. My best advice if this is the situation for you is to purchase the best possible quality you can afford and build from there. Even if it means replacing one pot or knife at a time until you can manage a complete set of superior quality cooking tools you will find it well worth the price you've paid in the long run.

Quick and Easy Lunches for the Cooking Challenged
Let's face it, cooking is not a top priority in the lives of every man, woman, or child on the planet. In fact, far too people have made learning to cook a priority in their lives. This means that we often exist on convenience foods and boxed mixes rather than taking the effort to prepare healthy meals for our families and our own personal enjoyment.
The same holds true for lunches when we often resort to a can of soup or box of macaroni and cheese or some other such product rather than putting our creative efforts into making a quick and easy yet delicious lunch. You will see many ideas in this article and the hope is that these ideas will not only get you off to a great start for ending the lunch rut we all seem to find ourselves in at some time or another but also to try new things on your own.
First of all, not all great lunches require actual cooking in order to prepare. Some of them will require the use of the microwave and some of them will need to be cooked or at least prepared before hand and reheated. The choices are virtually limitless once you understand the creative concept that must be in place. You should also find that many of these ideas are so simple you will wonder why on earth you have never thought of them. I certainly hope that some of these ideas will become main features within your own home.
Lettuce wraps. These mike delightfully delicious lunch treats and the filling can be prepared ahead of time, which leaves only reheating the filling and wrapping when you're ready to eat. This is a fun lunch to share with your little ones and it teaches them that lettuce is much more versatile than people often give it credit for being. Some people choose to go with a teriyaki inspired filling; my family likes taco inspired fillings for our lettuce rolls. You are perfectly free to come up with a favorite filling of your very own.
Try sandwiches with different breads. Believe it or not, my children love trying new things. It's a rare trait for which I am extremely grateful. Believe me I understand all too well how fortunate I am. My youngest however, has a little difficulty with thick or crusty bread. Her favorite sandwich choice has become Hawaiian sweet rolls. We put the meat, cheese, mustard, and pickle in her roll as if it were a bun and she's thrilled. Other great ideas include hollowing out crusty rolls and filling them with roast beef and cheddar. You can broil this in your oven for a few minutes for a rare sandwich treat. The cooking part is very minimal and you do not have to have in depth knowledge of anything to prepare or enjoy these simple treats. Other great bread ideas include croissants with ham and cheese or chicken salad, taco pitas (another great favorite in our household), and paninis (this works really well if you have a George Foreman grill or a panini press).
While this is by no means the end all be all guide to cooking quick and easy lunches it is good food for thought. The hope is that this will get your own creative juices flowing so that you can prepare wonderful lunches for your family without needing to do too terribly much heavy cooking in the process.

The same holds true for lunches when we often resort to a can of soup or box of macaroni and cheese or some other such product rather than putting our creative efforts into making a quick and easy yet delicious lunch. A Brief History of Pizza
Pizza, the way we know it today, is a derivation from focaccia (from the Latin word for fire), flat bread that has been prepared since antiquity in different forms and garnished with herbs, olives, fat, raisin, honey, and nuts.
The word pizza in Italian identifies any type of flat bread or pie—fried or baked. Although you’d find many types of pitas or pizzas around the Mediterranean, it is in Naples that pizza in the form we know it today first emerged, after the tomato appeared on the table in the 1700s. Naples has many records of pizza since around the year 1000; the first mentions call these flat breads laganae, and later they are referred to as picea. In those times, pizzas were dressed with garlic and olive oil, or cheese and anchovies, or small local fish. They were baked on the open fire and sometimes were closed in two, as a book, to form a calzone.
In Naples is also where the first pizzerias opened up, with brick wood-burning oven, covered with lava stones from the Mount Vesuvius. The chefs of those times ignored pizza because was considered a poor people’s food, but the new combination with the tomato, when it entered the kitchen around the 1770s, must have raised some curiosity, even in the royal palace. Ferdinand I Bourbon, King of Naples, loved the simple food of the people and went to taste the pizzas made in the shop of Antonio Testa. He liked it so much that he wanted pizza to be included in the menu at the court. He failed after the opposition of his wife, Queen Maria Carolina. His son Ferdinand II also liked all kind of popular food and he loved pizza to the point that he hired Domenico Testa, son of the now famous Antonio, to build a pizza oven in the royal palace of Capodimonte.
Pizza became very popular, earning its place in Neapolitan folklore. Simple and economical, it turned into the food for all people, even sold on the streets, as shown in many illustrations of the time.
A famous episode extended the popularity of pizza beyond the limits of the city of Naples. It was 1889, and Margherita, queen of Italy, was visiting the city. She was told about pizza and wanted to taste it. A famous cook by the name of Don Raffaele, helped by his wife Donna Rosa, was invited to cook pizza at the royal palace. They prepared three pizzas, typical of that time: one with cheese and basil; one with garlic, oil, and tomato; and one with mozzarella, basil, and tomato. The queen, impressed by the colors of the last pizza, which resembled the national flag, preferred that one. Since then this pizza is known as Pizza Margherita, and Don Raffaele is credited with its invention, even if we know that it already existed for a long time.
At the beginning of the last century, with Italian immigrants, the first pizzerias appeared also in the United States, where pizza has become a mass phenomenon. Yet, even today the best pizza is found in Naples, where it is rigorously made with buffalo mozzarella. Superior pizzas are considered those obtained by moderate variations of the simplest and most popular: Pizza Napoletana with tomato, garlic, oil, and oregano; Pizza Margherita; Pizza Marinara with tomato, anchovies, capers, and olives; and Pizza Four Seasons, divided in four quadrants, each dressed in a different way. Pizza with hot salami, the American pepperoni pizza, is instead found in the Calabria region south of Naples, where this type of hot sausage is produced.

Spanish Food Recipe
One common detox diet is the combination of nothing but fruits and water for a given period. The promotion of chemicals being matabilized by our bodies can be helped with certain vitamins, herbs and supplements. Some supplements will help the mobilization of toxin's in our fat and other toxin deposit's located throughout the body.
Whilst on your travels in Spain and pausing to take a breath from site-seeing, you have surely experimented with "tapas" at a welcoming bar.
If this is the case, it is more than likely that you have come across the small, tasty filleted fish, preserved in olive oil, sliced garlic and chopped parsley, and highly popular throughout Spain. This delectable dish is usually known as "boquerones" but, depending on the area, can also be called "anchoas".
Boquerones are small, fresh anchovies. Accompanied by crisp, fresh Spanish bread, a glass of ruby-red wine or refreshing Asturian cider, they are a delight to eat. Moreover - as with many traditional Spanish dishes which comprise the renowned Mediterranean Diet - they are extremely healthy.
Like its friend the sardine, the anchovy is an oily fish, packed full of proteins and minerals, protecting against heart disease, and "good" for cholesterol. What´s more, in many areas of Spain - in particular the Mediterranean coast - fresh anchovies are extremely cheap. On first coming to Spain, I happily enjoyed many tapas of boquerones, completely unaware of one fact ... all those little anchovies I had eaten were not cooked! For a moment, I deeply regretted asking my Spanish neighbor, Carmen, how to make them!
Fortunately, Carmen went into immediate action and saved the day! She frog-marched me to the local fishmongers, bought a kilo of the little fish, took me home and showed me "her way" of preparing them. They were so delicious that I quickly recovered my passion for boquerones and have been enjoying them ever since!
Methods for preparing boquerones tend to vary slightly from family to family. However, the basic principles are always the same. You first have to clean and fillet the fish, which is simple enough, but rather tedious until you get the hang of it.
If you suffer with acne, or if your skin is dull, rough or blotchy, a detox could be exactly what you need. Other symptoms of toxic overload can be lethargy and frequent headaches or simply feeling below par. Detoxing will not only help your skin but the other major elimination organ, the liver. In fact your whole system will benefit!
Next, you soak the fillets, either in white wine vinegar or a mixture of half vinegar and half water. The vinegar will clean and bleach the fish and also soften any remaining little bones. Some people sprinkle the fish with salt; others (myself included) feel that the fish is salty enough already. The fish has to be left for a good few hours soaking in the vinegar. Again, this tends to vary, with some Spaniards leaving them overnight in the fridge and others just waiting a couple of hours. Also, some families change the vinegar/water-and-vinegar mixture once during this process, whilst others don´t bother.
Once you have thrown away the vinegar, the bleached fillets are covered with a good quality virgin olive oil, which will preserve them. You can add as much, or as little, sliced garlic as you wish, plus freshly chopped parsley.
So ... here is the actual recipe.
BOQUERONES
Ingredients:
* 1 kilo fresh anchovies.
* White wine vinegar.
* Virgin olive oil.
* Garlic.
* Parsley.
* Salt (optional).
Method:
1. Top and tail anchovies.
2. Slit along underside and discard innards.
3. Open out fish.
4. Remove central bone by lifting from tail end upwards.
5. Rinse well.
6. Place a layer of anchovy fillets in a shallow dish.
7. Sprinkle with salt (optional) and pour on plenty of vinegar.
8. Repeat with another layer, changing direction.
9. Leave to soak in vinegar for a few hours or overnight.
10. Pour off vinegar.
11. Very gently rinse fillets.
12. Cover fillets in virgin olive oil.
13. Add slices of garlic and chopped parsley. As one of the most common causes of lethargy is constipation, learn more about colon detox today
It is so pleasant to find something in life that is a delight to the senses, affordable, healthy and does nobody any harm (apologies to any vegetarians out there and, also, the little anchovies ...). So ... do make the most of fresh anchovies whilst you are in Spain and enjoy!
The human body is like one big process of input and output. Some things we intake such as food and water which the body requires diffuse into the body; we then pass the by-products which are of no use, or surplus to the body's requirements. Drugs, on the other hand, diffuse almost entirely into the body as this is what they are designed to do.

11 Tips to Making the Best Pork Ribs.
1. Purchase ribs that are evenly covered in meat. In other words, don't buy a slab that is fatty on one end and fleshy on the other. Avoid slabs that have exposed bones!
2. Allow for one pound of ribs per guest. This is a generous helping but for more impressive appetites, make it two!
3. When preparing the meat, make sure you remove the membrane on the underside of the ribs with a sharp knife. If you don't it blocks the flavor intake.
4. Always marinate your ribs in the refrigerator, not at room temperature.
5. Don't even think about boiling those ribs! Above all else, boiling the meat causes it to lose all its flavor. If you just have to pre-cook your ribs before slapping them on the cooking grate, try steaming your slabs instead as this will help lock the flavor in.
6. Before placing your ribs on the grate for Barbecuing or smoking, make sure you coat the metal with a generous helping of oil.
7. Barbecuing demands constant attention! As soon as it goes on your grate, stay close by and keep an eye on it. Watch the cooking temperature and avoid going above 250 degrees Fahrenheit -- the best ribs are cooked slowly over indirect heat for about five hours.
8. Put down that fork! Always use tongs to handle your meat once it's on the grate. Why pierce the meat and let the flavor ooze out if you don't have to?
9. If you're going to baste during cooking stay away from anything with sugar in it. Your best bet is to use vinegar and/or water-based products only.
10. Only lay on the BBQ sauce in the last 20-30 minutes of cooking. Any sooner than that and the heat will cause the sauce to caramelize and burn your meat.
11. Let the ribs cool for 10-15 minutes before you serve them up. This is just a courtesy -- you don't want to singe your guests' mouths with smoking hot sauce! You could lose some friends.

10 Things You Didn’t Know about Barbecue
Every spring, North Americans gear up their grill, stock up on the meat and prepare for many mouth-watering barbecues. But how much do we really know about the art of barbecuing? From the familiar pastime’s origins to surprising tips and tactics, this list will provide you with all the information you need to wow your friends at the next neighbourhood barbecue!
1) Barbecues originated in pig-pickin’s, feasts that were common in the Southern United States prior to the Civil War. Whole pigs were cooked and eaten by the crowd.
2) “Smoking” was used as far as 6000 years ago in order to make meats safe to eat and store. The meat was exposed to smoke and low heat in order to prevent bacteria and enzymes from growing.
3) In Australia, a barbecue is commonly referred to as a barbie. The famous statement “I’ll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you,” which appeared in Australian tourism advertisements, is often used to refer to the country.
4) What most North Americans partake in today isn’t actually barbecuing. Barbecuing is cooking at temperatures around the boiling point of water (180-220*F) for a longer time period, in order to make the meat tender while preserving its natural juices. Today, the method most commonly used is in fact broiling: cooking at 475-700*F in much less time.
5) According to the Barbecue Industry Association, half of all marshmallows eaten in the U.S. have been toasted over a grill.
6) For an easy way to check how much propane you have left, bring your bathroom scale outside and weigh the gas tank.
7) The origin of the word barbecue is unclear. Some believe it came from the American-Indian word barbacoa for a wood on which foods were cooked. Others say it came from the french words “de barbe à queue,” meaning “whiskers to tail.”
8) To add a smokey flavour to your gas-grill-cooked foods or foods cooked inside the house, use “liquid smoke.” A condensation of actual smoke, this product can be easily added to your barbecue marinade or sauce.
9) Brisket, the extremely hard cut of meat taken from a cow’s chest, takes one to two hours per pound to barbecue. That’s an average 12 hours on the grill for a basic 8-pound piece!
10) Kansas City, Missouri and Lexington, North Carolina both claim to be the barbecue capitals of the world. Memphis, meanwhile, stakes a claim to being the pork barbecue capital.
Now you’re set to impress!

10 Great Tips On Cooking Meals
If you are as busy as most people you are always looking for ways to feed your family in convenient, fast, yet not-too-expensive ways. Try the following suggestions:
1. Cooking several meals for the week at one time. It may take a few hours of your time up front but will pay off in the long run when you come home each evening and have a meal ready to eat in a short amount of time. Try cooking a roast and using part of it as a main meal and then using some for sandwiches, beef stroganoff or as part of a stir-fry. Fry several pounds of hamburger and make a casserole, taco meat and chili to freeze for use later in the week.
2. After you return home from the grocery store clean all the fruits and vegetables you can. When it’s time for a meal all you will have to do is cook them or add them to a salad or soup.
3. Get ideas from the cooking shows on T.V. There are great shows that show you how to make a healthy meal in a short time.
4. Develop a revolving recipe file. If you get bogged down by the idea of having to plan 30 meals a month the recipe file is for you. Let family members choose some of their favorites and put the recipes in a monthly file. Flip to day five or fifteen and there is the meal just waiting to be cooked.
5. Enlist the help of the members of your family. As soon as the kids are old enough divide up the cooking responsibilities. Let everyone take turns with specific tasks or the whole meal. Pair these meals with fruit and veggies that have already been washed and cut-up and you are ready for dinner.
6. Share the cooking with friends or neighbors. I’ve known people who cook four or five of the same meal and then trade with four or five other people. This works best when people share the same basic ideas on what they like and don’t like. It’s a great idea though for a very easy week of evening meals.
7. Save coupons for those convenience things at the grocery store. They have entire entrees and dinners either fresh or frozen. Sometimes they are rather pricy but with the coupons they are good to have on hand for an evening when everyone is running in different directions and time is of the essence.
8. It’s O.K. to eat out from time to time. Clip coupons for these occasions and if you have kids keep a look-out for the places that have special prices for children. Some of the fast-food restaurants are trying to offer item choices that are a little more healthy.
9. Many larger cities have businesses that prepare food for the evening meal. They seem expensive at first but are so convenient and available for one person or entire families. There are many menu choices and meals cooked for special diets. When you calculate the groceries you buy and the times you eat out each week, this may work for you.
10. Combine several of the above ideas into a plan that is best for you.
It is possible with a little planning to cook meals that are quick and easy without spending hours in the kitchen every day.

Chinese Rice Recipes
Rice has always been a traditional part of Chinese
life. It's cheap, filling, tastes great, and can be
used in many different ways.
Everyone has had steamed rice and fried rice and those
two very simple dishes are a great addition to many
different meals. More popular in the warmer Southern
China, rice is grown all over the place and it has
been for thousands of years.
If you have a Chinese rice recipe that sounds great,
just take your time and learn to cook rice first.
Many people think rice is simple to cook and very hard
to mess up. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
Rice can be completely ruined in many ways.
There could be too much water, too little water, it
can be overcooked, undercooked, and burnt. Anyone who
has had restaurant quality rice and then tried to
recreate it has learned this lesson.
Chinese recipes usually call for a specific type of
rice that is cooked a certain way. If you think your
jasmine rice will taste just as good a little crunchy,
you are very wrong.
Improperly cooked rice can annihilate even the most
delicious Chinese recipe and the reaction from friends
and family might turn you off from cooking Chinese
food for a long time.
The easiest way to cook rice is with a rice cooker.
These are fairly cheap and automatically shut off when
the rice is finished.
You can never mess your rice up again as long as you
follow the directions of the machine and the rice
itself.
By adding perfect rice to accompany a great Chinese
recipe, you will have a much better reaction from
everyone who eats it.

Chinese Recipes
Chinese recipes for cooking are some of the most
interesting and delicious types you can find.
From your standard stir fry to more exotic dishes with
shrimp or duck, Chinese recipes are sure to be a big
hit at your dinner table or any type of get together.
There are thousands of Chinese recipes out there you
can find in cookbooks, on television, or on the
Internet.
Chinese recipes are often handed down throughout the
generations and some have origins that date back
thousands of years. Granted, there wasn't near the
technology we have today with electric woks, rice
cookers, and deep fryers but the recipes remain
unchanged.
Chinese recipes have a very rich history and cultural
heritage but many were created by the lower class who
worked very hard and needed to have a good meal. This
is why so many Chinese recipes revolve around China's
main food staple. Rice.
Rice is a very important part of Chinese recipes. Not
just for it's filling properties but because the
climate in China is perfect for rice.
It grows fairly fast and has a high yield making it
the perfect food to accompany a meat or seafood dish.
By adding rice, a meal for two can easily become a
meal for five. This is accomplished in the same way by
using another staple of Chinese food which is noodles.
Chinese recipes vary from being easy to taking hours
upon hours to prepare. If you are not used to Chinese
cooking, you may need to buy some new cookware that is
suitable for what you will be making.
A wok is very handy for stir fry and deep fried dishes
and is a lot less messy than your standard frying pan.
With a little trial and error, you can make many
different Chinese recipes a fun new addition to your
menu.

Cooking With Your Kids
Kids love to help when it comes to cooking. Getting
them involved early is a good way for them to learn
responsibility and a skill they can use in life.
Cooking with kids can also be a time of bonding for
child and parent.
Kids can help in various ways; age appropriate tasks
are best.
Your younger child cracking the egg may not be the
best choice. However, if you crack the egg open and
let him/her put the egg into the bowl it can make them
feel that they have truly helped.
Kids love to taste test.
There’s nothing more delightful to a child then being
able to lick the beaters after you’ve made a bowl of
chocolate frosting. Kids learn by getting involved.
A little icing on the fingers and cheeks won’t hurt
them. But, the time you spend with them cooking will
last a life time.
Showing kids simple things they can do will make them
feel important. Using sharp utensils isn’t the best
idea, but, letting a child roll a ball of dough in
their hands and placing it on the cookie sheet plays
with all their senses.
It’s a way of having fun with your children, and the
fun thing about cooking with your kids is, that they
are learning a skill, they just don’t know it!
Cooking with your kids and as a family is a great way
to keep your children talking. Keeping them involved
in things like cooking lets they know you think they
are special.
Don’t fret about the little messes they make, enjoy
the thrill of watching them taste their creation.
Remember this moment always. Kids grow up in a hurry,
giving them something special to remember is special
and cooking with them is a memory they will take with
them through life.

4 Types of Tea: How is Each One Made
Tea is one of the most popular after food drinks in the world, but still very few people are aware that there are four inherently different flavours and types of tea one can find in every supermarket. Each tea is made out of different ingredients and each tea has its advantages and disadvantages. I will explain.
What you should always remember is that there are only four types of tea.
1) Black tea
2) Green tea
3) White tea
4) Oolong tea
All these are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis, also known as the tea plant. Other herbal infusions such as chamomile tea, ginger tea or red tea made of rooibos leaves are disqualified as types of tea since the tea plant is not involved in their making. The difference between the four tea variations lies in the process of making them. In addition, each type of tea has another flavor and various health benefits.
1) Black Tea
The strong flavored burnt Sienna colored hot beverage is the most popular type of tea in the West. Either served with a squeeze of lemon or added milk and a cube of sugar, the cup of black tea is part of daily tea ceremonies that take place worldwide. Black tea is made of heavily oxidized Camellia sinensis leaves. When served plain, it contains no calories, carbohydrates, or fats. A cup of black tea contains more caffeine than any other types of tea but less than in any cup of coffee.
2) Green Tea
The lightly oxidized tea has been popular in China, Japan and Korea for centuries. Recently, rumors on its health benefits increased its popularity in the West as well. It has been proven that drinking green tea can lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, increase metabolic rates and be helpful in variety of other conditions and illnesses. The green tea is lightly oxidized, dried, but not fermented. It is usually served plain, without sugar or milk. Since some of the green tea variants taste a bit bitter, it should be brewed in lower temperature than the boiling point.
3) White Tea
White tea is rarer and more expensive than the other types of teas mentioned above. Originated in the Fujian province of china, the white tea is made of young Camellia sinensis leaves, which go through a long process of steaming or frying, inactivate fermenting and drying. Since the leaves are harvested while the buds are still covered by white hair, it is called white tea. White tea has the most delicate, sweet taste than the other types of tea. Moreover, it contains the smallest amount of caffeine and the largest amount of antioxidant that help prevent cancer.
4) Oolong Tea
The traditional Chinese tea is the common companion of Chinese foods such as dim sum and chop suey in American Chinese restaurants. The oolong tea, black dragon in Chinese, got its name after its long, dark distinguished leaves that look like wild black dragons when brewed. The unique taste of the oolong tea is achieved by a long process that includes sun drying of the Camellia sinensis leaves, light oxidization, cooling and drying processes. The result is a lighter flavor than the popular black tea and stronger than the delicate green tea.

3 Ways To Cook The Perfect Rice
Rice may be cooked by 3 methods, each of which requires a different proportion of water. These methods are boiling, which requires 12 times as much water as rice; the Japanese method, which requires 5 times as much; and steaming, which requires 2-1/2 times as much. Whichever of these methods is used, however, it should be remembered that the rice grains, when properly cooked, must be whole and distinct. To give them this form and prevent the rice from having a pasty appearance, this cereal should not be stirred too much in cooking nor should it be cooked too long.
BOILED RICE - Boiling is about the simplest way. Properly boiled rice not only forms a valuable dish itself, but is an excellent foundation for other dishes that may be served at any meal. The water in which rice is boiled should not be wasted, as it contains much nutritive material. This water may be utilized in the preparation of soups or sauces, or it may even be used to supply the liquid required in the making of yeast bread.
BOILED RICE (Sufficient to Serve Eight)
1 c. rice ; 3 tsp. Salt; 3 qt. boiling water
Wash the rice carefully and add it to the boiling salted water. Boil rapidly until the water begins to appear milky because of the starch coming out of the rice into the water or until a grain can be easily crushed between the fingers. Drain the cooked rice through a colander, and then pour cold water over the rice in the colander, so as to wash out the loose starch and leave each grain distinct. Reheat the rice by shaking it over the fire, and serve hot with butter, gravy, or cream or milk and sugar.
JAPANESE METHOD - Rice prepared by the Japanese method may be used in the same ways as boiled rice. However, unless some use is to be made of the liquid from boiled rice, the Japanese method has the advantage of being a more economical way of cooking this cereal.
JAPANESE METHOD (Sufficient to Serve Eight)
1 c. rice ; 1-1/2 tsp. Salt; 5 c. boiling water
Wash the rice, add it to the boiling salted water, and boil slowly for 15 minutes. Then cover the utensil in which the rice is cooking and place it in the oven for 15 minutes more, in order to evaporate the water more completely and make the grains soft without being mushy. Serve in the same way as boiled rice.
STEAMED RICE - To steam rice requires more time than either of the preceding cooking methods, but it causes no loss of food material. Then, too, unless the rice is stirred too much while it is steaming, it will have a better appearance than rice cooked by the other methods. As in the case of boiled rice, steamed rice may be used as the foundation for a variety of dishes and may be served in any meal.
STEAMED RICE (Sufficient to Serve Six)
1 c. rice; 1-1/2 tsp. Salt 2-1/2 c. water
Wash the rice carefully and add it to the boiling salted water. Cook it for 5 minutes and then place it in a double boiler and allow it to cook until it is soft. Keep the cooking utensil covered and do not stir the rice. About 1 hour will be required to cook rice in this way. Serve in the same way as boiled rice.
